Fundraising and Events

Why do we need donations?

Our 24 hour nursing care is funded through various organisations, such as Social Services and Primary Care Trusts, or the Service Personnel & Veterans Agency for ex-service men and women. But severe reductions in social care budgets means the funding barely covers the basic needs of each individual, and your donation enables us to provide so much more, including things many of us take for granted. We can buy games, dvds, books and computers with special software and adaptations. We can buy postural aids, gym and kitchen equipment for rehabilitation and assessments. We can buy paint, clay and flowers for crafts. We can provide special outings, entertainment and more, all of which are so very important for a good quality of life

How can I donate?

You can donate securely on line via My Donate, the Big Give or via Paypal (or credit card). You can also set up a monthly standing order with your bank, or simply send a cheque in the post. If you are in work, please consider Payroll Giving (see below) which is a tax efficient way of giving to the charity or charities of your choice. Taxpayers can also increase the value of their gift by completing a Gift Aid declaration (see below). You can also text CHAS09 £10 (or a different donation amount) to 70070 to make a donation.

How your donation will be spent:

Just £10 can provide paints for our Art Group, or a new DVD, or it could go towards a computer game. £50 will buy computer voice recognition software to enable people who are paralysed to play computer games or stay in touch via the internet. £100 can buy a blood pressure monitor or fund wheelchair repairs or adaptations. Larger sums can be put towards a major purchase including new therapy equipment such as exercise pedals, nursing equipment like a heart monitor, general care equipment such as a shower chair or trolley, or it could fund a special event for our residents. You can also rest assured that Chaseley, in contrast to many other charities, spends very little on fundraising - having one part time Fundraiser.

We are a small charity, so your donation really will make a difference.

We cannot compete with the large, national charities for funds, but we truly appreciate donors who really want their money to make a difference to a small charity such as ourselves. Recent purchases have included our multigym equipment (pictured top right), therapy kitchen equipment (also pictured right) new shower trolleys, height adjustable wash basins, splinting materials, overhead hoists, CCTV cameras, art easels (right), a karaoke machine, a pottery kiln, heart monitors/defibrillators, a blood monitor and transfer aids.

Our multigym was purchased with a donation from ABF The Soldiers Charity

Our therapy kitchen was equipped through donations, including from the Eastbourne Lions

Art is very popular, and we get through a lot of materials!

OTHER WAYS YOU CAN HELP US:

Organise a fundraising event.

Could you host a coffee morning, open garden, sponsored walk or other event for us? We are always delighted when people come forward and offer their help to fundraise - and if we can support you in any way, by providing leaflets, a presentation/talk, prizes, a banner, collecting tins or manpower, do let us know. Young Joshua is one of our star fundraisers, pictured centre right with family members and his holiday chocolate button stall, which recently raised £28 for us!

Recycling:

We can recycle your old desktop printer cartridges and mobile phones, along with any unwanted CDs, DVDs, and computer games. We have raised almost £300 this year from cartridges alone. Just post the items to us or drop them in at our reception. If you are a local business and collect large quantities, we would be happy to pick them up from you. Printer cartridges must be original (ie. not refills) and sorry we cannot recycle Epson cartridges or any toner cartridges.

We can recycle for you and raise funds in the process!

Shop Online:

If you shop online at a wide range of popular stores, you can raise money for Chaseley at no cost to yourself - you might even save money with their special offers and discount codes - visit the easyfundraising page on this website for more information, or click on the picture on the right to go straight to their website.

Loads of stores to choose from!

Payroll Giving:

If you are in work, your employer may offer Payroll Giving, where you pledge a small amount each week or month from your salary, and the best bit of that is, it is deducted before tax! So, if you pledge £5 per month, you will only see a reduction in your net pay of £4 if a standard rate taxpayer or £3 if a higher rate taxpayer.

If your employer has a Payroll Giving scheme in place, ask for a ‘choice’ form, which you complete and return to your Payroll Department or their Payroll Giving Agency. You can choose to give to more than one charity if you like. That’s all there is to it. You can cancel the arrangement at any time, and can donate as little as £1 per month, with no upper limit! If your employer doesn’t have this scheme, get them to talk to us about how easy it is to set up or visit the government's information page on payroll giving.

If you are employed, payroll giving is a tax efficient way to donate

Gift Aid

All taxpayers, currently employed or not, can make a donation using a Gift Aid declaration. This means that we can ask the Inland Revenue to refund the tax you have paid on your donation. So if you donate £10, we can claim an additional £2.50 from the Inland Revenue and this additional income soon mounts up. Donations before April 2011 are worth more. All you need to do is sign a Gift Aid declaration form and return it to us. Download a form here, or request one by email, or by telephone from Chaseley.

If a UK tax payer, your donation can be gift aided

Leave a Legacy

Legacies are so important to charities, as they are a low cost way of generating much needed income. The larger, national charities obtain a major percentage of their income from legacies, spending significant resources to attract them, but it is much harder for smaller charities such as ourselves to benefit in this way. So we would ask that if you supported Chaseley during your lifetime, please consider remembering us in your will.

If you have already made a will, you could ask your solicitor to draw up a codicil for you, bequeathing an amount to The Chaseley Trust. If you do not have a will, contact a solicitor (we can provide some contact details if you wish) and ask them to help you put your affairs in order. If you die without a will, you will have no say in how your estate is distributed. Another way is to leave a gift to CAF (Charities Aid Foundation) in your will, who will then distribute the gift to any charities you have requested. The advantage of this is that you can change the beneficiary charities at any time, without changing your will.

You can make a number of different gifts to charity. A Pecuniary Bequest is a gift of a particular sum of money. A Residuary Bequest is a gift of part or all of the value of your estate after debts, liabilities and other legacies have been paid. A gift in kind is a gift of a specific object, such as a painting or property.

Anyone who leaves a legacy to Chaseley earns a very important place in our legacy book, so future generations can appreciate their generosity (pictured below). You can also download our legacy Roll of Honour 1990 to 2010 here.
